AHEAD’s Jim Jordan Town Hall Recap

More than 200 people attended the 2-hour AHEAD-sponsored town hall with Rep. Jim Jordan this past Monday at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in Lima. Questions for the 4th District’s Congressman covered a range of topics including health care, insurance, immigration, environmental policy, and the opioid crisis, among others.

A huge thanks to the AHEAD members that made this event a reality! Emily and Beth and others in the Political Action Committee for planning the town hall, Lisa for moderating, and Kerry for photographing the event and writing the press release.

Below, please find several news articles covering the event, as well as an archived Facebook Live stream of the town hall.

AHEAD and the Jim Jordan town hall in the news!

We’re in the news! AHEAD was featured at least three times that we know of in local media over the past week. The town hall with Jim Jordan on April 24th (tomorrow!) made it in the Lima News and Bellefontaine Examiner, and AHEAD member Kerry had the opportunity to speak at Lima Mayor David Berger’s press conference on the 19th about the same event. Links to the articles and the YouTube clip of Kerry at the press conference are included below. If you run across additional stories, please forward the links to ahead.oh.web@gmail.com and we’ll make sure they get posted on the website!

Poster and information about the Jim Jordan Town Hall

We have a poster, so please share it widely! A link to a larger version of the poster is available below.

Additional information about the town hall:

An energetic band of organizers has been working overtime to set up the Jim Jordan Town Hall, Monday, April 24, in Lima (see calendar for details). We’ve been told that this is the only town hall to be held by a Republican representative in Ohio in 2017. A core goal of the town hall is for Jordan’s constituents to get a chance to hear his answers directly. The organizing team is dedicated to creating a respectful, civil dialogue. We encourage everyone to come, even if you are not a Jordan constituent. It should be a great learning opportunity. And, spread the word. Here is the press release and a link to the poster featured on the left. We encourage people to submit questions and personal stories in advance: send to ahead.oh@gmail.com.

Public invited for town hall with Representative Jim Jordan

Members of the public are invited to attend a town hall meeting featuring U.S. Congressional Representative Jim Jordan. The event will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on April 24 in the South Hall of the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center in Lima. The town hall is sponsored by Allen and Hardin for Election Action and Democracy (AHEAD), in partnership with other groups in Representative Jordan’s district.

Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has represented Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District in the US House of Representatives since 2007 and is a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus.

This event is a rare opportunity for members of the general public to ask questions of Congressman Jordan and raise concerns. The town hall will feature pre-selected questions from the community followed by a Q&A with the audience. AHEAD is accepting questions for the first portion by email (ahead.oh@gmail.com).

All people committed to respectful dialogue are welcome. Organizers ask that people not bring signs that might block other participants from seeing the stage. Attendees will receive “Agree/Disagree” signs which they can use to show their opinion of statements.

AHEAD is a citizen advocacy group composed of Allen and Hardin County residents committed to nonviolent action for democracy. For more about AHEAD and the event, see https://www.facebook.com/aheadoh/.

Become a Precinct Captain

Hey Allen County folks! Everyone in the media has been saying it’s more important than ever to run for office, but we all know it’s hard, and there’s a chance you’ll lose. So what’s the solution? Run UNOPPOSED for the position of Central Committee member of the Allen County Democratic Party!

Also known as Precinct Captains, these elected officials essentially perform a few basic get out the vote (GOTV) duties throughout their four-year term. These include registering voters, canvassing for Democratic candidates, recommending poll workers, phonebanking, and attending occasional meetings of the Allen County Democratic Party. (If you are unable to do some of these things, you’re allowed to find someone to fill in.) For a full list of duties, contact us, and we’ll forward you the document Jim Bode sent AHEAD.

Here is a(n incomplete) list of the precincts that currently DO have captains:

If you live in one of the precincts NOT listed here, congratulations! You’re now running for office.

Kidding. But seriously, you all should do it. You don’t even have to run a campaign – Kerry Bush’s dad has been the Bluffton B Precinct Captain for years and she didn’t even know he was on the ballot until she went to vote for the first time!

Don’t know your precinct? Look it up here.

Contact AHEAD, Jim Bode (bodejrb@gmail.com) or Ida Kay Keller (idakayk@earthlink.net) with any questions! Mike Hubbell (hubbelljm@embarqmail.com) has the list of openings in Hardin County.
